Haig Point Debuts Waterfront Calibogue Club
New Beach Club Offers Stunning Views of the Atlantic Ocean
Daufuskie Island, S.C., Feb. 25, 2009 – Haig Point recently unveiled its stunning new beach club to high praise from its members and Daufuskie Island residents. Known as the Calibogue Club, the 4,500-square-foot facility offers dramatic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Calibogue Sound, making it one of the most scenic dining retreats on the Southeastern coast.
“The Calibogue Club exceeded all of our expectations,” said Judy Wade, president of the Haig Point board of directors. “Haig Point already offers an unparalleled island life experience, and the addition of this exquisite beach club, paired with the community’s portfolio of unique amenities, just reinforces that this is a very special place.”
Built in traditional beachfront craftsman style, the Calibogue Club is reminiscent of estates that are often found along the East Coast, particularly in the Hamptons. The Haig Point board of directors commissioned Atlanta architect Summerour and Associates for the design of the Club and Hilton Head-based KS McRorie for the interiors.
“Our design strategy centered around the amazing views offered from the Calibogue Club, so all interior elements complement the marsh, beach and water,” said Kelley McRorie, principal of KS McRorie Interior Design. “Soft gray-green walls, simple antique pieces, washed rugs that play well on the pine floors, and antique heart-pine beams paired with clean-lined lighting and large-scale art pieces result in a setting that feels classic and comfortable while framing the views perfectly.”
The Club menu changes daily and offers an innovative combination of fresh seafood, salads and hors d’oeuvres. Signature items from Chef Chip Pridgen include Pepper Crusted Salmon, Smith Island Crab Cakes and Cape Fear Shrimp & Grits. The Calibogue Club seats 77 comfortably and offers an incredible private setting for weddings, executive retreats and special events. There are two levels of dining, outdoor seating and an attractive bar with views of Hilton Head’s Harbour Town lighthouse. The Club is currently open for member dining five nights a week, Wednesday through Sunday from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Happy hour specials will be offered each Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
